For IT leaders to take over ownership of a data science project from business partners, the same principle applies. Explicitly negotiating that only one of the feature set, resource burn rate or completion date, can be fixed is the first step to establishing expectations that are in line with reality. While IT may seem like magic to nontechnical people, IT departments are constrained by the same mundane project management rules as the rest of the world.
