Becker College thinks that understanding Big Data — how to search for patterns in seemingly endless amount of digital facts — is the college’s next big thing. The Worcester-based college has established a Department of Data Science and is looking for someone to lead it.
Becker is modeling its data science program after one developed at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, according to Mr. Prewitt-Freilino. On its website, the College of Charleston contends it was the first university in the country to offer and undergraduate data science degree.
Becker College President Robert E. Johnson envisions data science becoming a core degree at the college, one that its students can either pursue as a major, or as a minor that compliments another area of study, like digital games, or business, or veterinary science, or nursing.
